Insurance estimates are often lower because they’re quick, surface-level assessments that assume cheaper parts and standardized labor rates. The body shop estimating process requires disassembly and repair planning, taking in to account OEM procedures, scans, and calibrations that reveal the true scope of work. The shop will then provide the insurance company the updated estimate and documentation to 'supplement' for the additional cost of the complete repair plan.
